The hard truth about Appointment Setting in 2026

The marketing promise

TikTok, YouTube and Instagram are full of 19-year-olds claiming €10,000 per month from 'just sending DMs'. Course sellers charge €1,500 and promise you close a deal within 30 days.

The reality (from 100+ surveys)

We asked the Appointmentssetter.nl community: how much do you really earn, how many hours do you put in?

Results: 29 people earn nothing. 17 work 5-20 hours per week for less than €1,000 per month. Only 12 earn over €3,000 per month, and they work 30+ hours per week.

Median income for people under a year in: €380 per month. Median for 1-2 years in: €1,200 per month.

What courses do not tell you

Setter becomes a race to the bottom. Everyone learns the same DM templates. Prospects get 40+ identical messages per week. Conversion drops from 8% in 2022 to 1.2% in 2025.

Closers (the ones doing the calls) keep 70-80% of commission. Setter gets the rest, often €100-200 per closed deal. On an average product price of €3,000 and 2-5% closing rate from your leads, you need 50+ qualified conversations per month to bring in €2,000.

The 'top 1%' setters who do earn well usually sit in fixed teams, have a 1-2 year relationship with the closer, and work in niche industries with less competition.

Compared to other earning models

Trading bot (like our setup): €500 starting capital, 0 hours of monitoring after setup, average 8-12% per month on capital. On €5,000 that is €400-600 per month passive, after the initial 5-hour setup.

Setter work: €0 starting capital, 20-30 hours per week, on average €800-1,500 per month for an experienced setter.

Effective hourly: trading bot infinite after ramp-up, setter work around €15-25 per hour. Setter work pays worse per hour than an average side job, but with the illusion of flexibility.

When setter work does make sense

If you have no capital to put into trading, and you want to learn sales skills that will be valuable later in your career. Then a year of setter work is a good internship for a real sales role later.

If you combine it with other streams: setter work during the day, trading bot running in the background, YouTube content in your free time. Income diversification.

Not as the main route to financial freedom. The numbers are too poor for that.
